Creativity Workshop

December 31, 2023

Yin

The restorative dark of winter,
The quiet nourishing waters of the north,
Soft valleys to balance
against the bright light
and creative energy of
the high peaks.

I like the quiet hours of January. Winter afternoons are a good time to get out colored pencils and make mandalas. Creativity flourishes more easily within some some limits and the circle makes a comfortable space to go exploring.

On Thursday, January 25 I am again presenting a Creativity Workshop at the North Shore Library in Glendale. This time we will make mandalas. Working with colored pencils on black paper we will bring light to the dark of the winter afternoon.

Beginners welcome - absolutely no experience or skill as an artist is needed. More experienced artists will explore their creative potential.

There is no fee and all supplies are provided. Space is limited, contact the library to reserve your spot.

Holiday Greetings

November 23, 2023

I will be at the International Gift Shop on December 1st and 2nd, selling notecards and some colored pencil work.

This is one of Milwaukee’s favorite holiday fairs, back for the first time since the pandemic closed everything down.

Hand crafted gifts made here in Milwaukee and fair trade items from around the world. This show is presented by Milwaukee Friends Meeting - you might know them as Quakers. They don’t keep anything for themselves but give a portion of all sales to organizations that support peace, justice and assistance to the needy.

Friday, December 1, 4:00 - 8:00 pm
Saturday, December 2, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

I have been keeping an art journal. I write down a word or two that I pull from the day and then I start painting or drawing. On this day I wrote Big Magic Oatmeal, then started painting with Inktense, Derwent’s water-activated ink, which I have been exploring. I was astonished to see this beautiful tree show up. You can see the words Big Magic Oatmeal hiding behind the topmost branches.

This month my paintings are on display at the North Shore Library in Glendale. If you have a few minutes please stop by. I know the roads are a mess with all the construction but there is plenty of off street parking. I would avoid the Port Washington Rd and Good Hope Rd intersection if you can.

I am also giving a talk at the library on Tuesday, September 12 at 1:00 pm where I will tell some of the story of my transition from a disabled mess to a happy, healthy artist.

Then, on Thursday, September 28, 1:00-3:00, I am leading a creativity workshop. We will use the water-activated ink that I have been exploring. The workshop is open to everyone, from practiced artists to total beginners. It will be fun and it is free so come join us. This class is limited so register with the library to make sure you have a spot.

This is another of my experiments with water-activated ink. I love the bright, vibrant colors.

Love Endures

Printing my own cards is working out well and I found a plastic-free box made from recycled paper to package them. They now come in boxed sets of 8. I am moving to smaller cards - 5.5” x 4.25” - still on beautiful paper from Red River Paper. Check out the Notecards page to see what I currently have available. (A few of the 7” x 5” are still available and I can print more if you want them so just let me know.)

Most of the cards are blank so you can pen a personal message but I have one with text inside.
